GC Arrested For Rape, Blackmail

Steven Fabrizio, the general counsel of the Motion Picture Association of America — Hollywood’s top lobbying organization — was arrested by Metropolitan Police Department detectives in Washington, D.C. for the alleged rape and blackmail of a woman he contacted through a dating site. Fabrizio served as GC of the MPPA since 2013. Previously he was a senior vice president in the business and legal affairs department of the Recording Industry Association of America, and before that he was a partner at Jenner & Block. The Hollywood Reporter, which broke the news of his arrest, characterized him as ”a big courtroom presence on behalf of the content industry in high-profile battles against Grokster, Hotfile and Aereo,” during his tenure at Jenner. The arrest occurred on Aug. 23 He was fired on Aug. 26. Daniel Robbins will be interim general counsel during the search for a permanent replacement.
