FBI Investigating Contractor For Stealing Walmart Information

Employees of Compucom, a tech services vendor, are under FBI investigation for possible theft of sensitive information from Walmart. In a court filing, the F.B.I. claims Compucom employees searched internal Walmart correspondence for information that might give the vendor an advantage in gaining the retailer’s business. According to the filing, the information did help Compucom submit a winning bid. The scheme unraveled after a Compucom tech photographed an email about a Walmart disciplinary matter and sent it to a Walmart employee he was chatting with on an instant messaging system. The photo was subsequently forwarded by accident to a second Walmart employee who reported it to the company’s security department. Walmart went to the F.B.I. in September 2016. A spokesman for Compucom, which was acquired by Office Depot for $1 billion in 2017, said the company was cooperating in the investigation.
