Time’s Up Fund Backs Harassment Lawsuit Against Walmart

The Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund, an initiative by female Hollywood film stars and producers, is helping fund a lawsuit pitting an online order filler at Walmart against her employer. Gina Pitrie says her manager routinely touched her inappropriately and made suggestive comments to her while she worked. The lawsuit, filed in April, is one of the first to be backed by the Time’s Up fund. The group is also working with labor, social and communications activists to publicize the struggles of working women facing harassment on the job. Since it was launched in January, the Time’s Up fund has raised about $22 million in donations to help pay for legal representation and other assistance for women facing harassment. About 2,700 workers have contacted the fund, saying they have been harassed. Walmart says it investigated Pitre’s complaints and was unable to substantiate a violation of its policy on harassment.
