Bench Nominee Says Birth Control Causes Murder And Assault

Wendy Vitter, Trump’s choice to become a federal judge in Lousiana, dissembled when asked whether she supported Brown v. Board of Education at her senate confirmation hearing. “I think I get into a difficult area when I start commenting on Supreme Court decisions which are correctly decided and which I may disagree with,” she replied. She also sought to dismiss her work opposing abortion, and misstated facts when pressed on why she did not disclose speeches in which she made controversial statements on abortion on a questionnaire she submitted to the Senate Judiciary Committee. In one speech she urged the audience to distribute brochures that claimed “abortion causes breast cancer and that birth control causes women to be assaulted and murdered.” When Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii asked whether she believes those claims, Vitter replied that she “had never heard those opinions before” and was “not a medical professional.” At the 2013 talk in question she told attendees to “go to Dr. Angela’s website, Breast Cancer Prevention Institute, download [the brochure], and at your next physical, you walk into your pro-life doctor and say, ‘Have you thought about putting these facts or this brochure in your waiting room?’”
