Aged Mafioso Sentenced For Road Rage Incident

Vincent Asaro, 82,  was sentenced to eight years in prison for his part in a road rage incident in Howard Beach, Queens. The prosecutor, Bridget Rohde, acting US attorney for the eastern district of New York, said the sentence held Asaro “accountable not only for using his power as a member of organized crime to address a perceived slight by another motorist but for a lifetime of violent criminal activity.” Asaro was allegedly inducted into the Bonanno crime syndicate more than 40 years ago. He was acquitted of the murder of a suspected informant in 1969, and in 2016, he was acquitted of participating in the 1978 Lufthansa heist, which was chronicled in the Martin Scorsese gangster movie Goodfellas. Asaro pleaded guilty to the road rage offense, which was observed by a New York police officer in an unmarked car.
