Cyber Security Down Under

Responsibility for data security is finally moving out of the IT department and into the boardroom – in Australia. According to online magazine CIO, the Uber attack should be a warning that cyber breaches happen to tech-savvy companies as well as companies managed by Luddites, and in fact, have happened to 90 percent of all companies listed on the Australian stock exchange. The magazine’s recent Australian Encryption Trends Study found the key barrier to encryption for 55 percent of Australian organizations is simply locating where data resides. A newly enacted law down under will compel companies to make breaches public immediately. The article notes that IT departments are losing their stranglehold on cyber security, a trend it applauds.
