Acting CFPB Chief Won’t Fire The Woman Who’s Suing Him

Mick Mulvaney, acting chief of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, said he won’t fire Leandra English, the deputy director who has filed suit against both him and the man who appointed him, Donald Trump. English maintains that she, not Mulvaney, is next in line to be the interim head of the agency per the Dodd-Frank Act that established it, now that Richard Cordray, bane of the Republicans, has resigned. “It’s always a challenge when you’re in a workplace with someone who’s suing you,” Mulvaney says. “We typically don’t chat.” English had been Cordray’s chief of staff, but he promoted her to deputy director shortly before he resigned.
