American Fish On Prozac

It accumulates in their brains, according to recent studies. Levels of Prozac and other antidepressants in some Niagara River fish species were up to 20 times greater than they were in the river water itself. Other studies have found detectable levels of a number of widely prescribed antidepressant drugs in fish from the Great Lakes. Effects are not well understood, but apparently, there are some, including a reduced propensity to “acknowledge the presence of predators.” The problem could be alleviated by updating and retooling wastewater treatment plants, according to the author of the Niagara River study.
