House Advances Cybersecurity Bill For Ports

The House Homeland Security Committee has approved a bill aimed at protecting ports in the United States from cyberattacks. Rep. Norma Torres (D-Calif.) introduced the legislation last June, after the “notPetya” malware attack wormed its way into the software of A.P. Moller-Maersk, a global shipping company and shut down the largest terminal at the Port of Los Angeles. The bill requires that at least one maritime community representative participates in the Dept. Of Homeland Security’s information sharing hub for cyber threats to critical infrastructure, known as the National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center. It had bipartisan support on the committee.
