Hacking generates the headlines, but by far the most common way for confidential company information to enter the public domain is by way of departing employees who take it with them. One study found that half the employees who left their jobs over a recent one-year period left with confidential information. There are ways to address this problem, says Exterro’s Jim Gill. He identifies seven security measures companies can take, starting with limiting the data they keep in the first place and who has access to it.
