Murder Trial Begins For St. Louis Cop

Before shooting Anthony Lamar Smith to death after a high-speed pursuit in Dec. 2011, officer Jason Stockley was recorded on an internal camera saying that he intended to kill him. Police reports said officers had approached Smith, who was apparently involved in a drug deal behind a restaurant north of downtown St. Louis, when he fled. According to reports, Stockley could be heard in the video saying he was “going to kill this motherfucker, don’t you know it.” His partner was offered immunity for testimony, but that offer was rescinded. Stockley’s trial begins Monday 7-31. He has opted for a trial by judge.
