Claims Narrow In Waymo v. Uber Litigation

Waymo, the self-driving technology arm of Google parent Alphabet, has dropped three of the four patent claims it made against Uber. U.S. District Judge William Alsup is pressing both parties to simplify the scope of the case, which is set to go to trial in October. He asked Waymo to narrow its theft of trade secret claims from more than 100 down to ten that could be put in front of a jury. Waymo filed the lawsuit in February, alleging that one of its’ former engineers stole 14,000 documents before leaving the company and founding a self-driving trucking company which Uber later acquired. Uber’s request to depose Alphabet CEO Larry Page about why his company decided against partnering with Uber has been granted.
