New Slate of U.S. Attorney Nominees
June 15, 2017
President Donald Trump has announced eight nominees for U.S. attorneys, the “first wave” since his administration requested the resignation of 46 U.S. attorneys in March. The eight nominees are subject to Senate confirmation. The nominations include: D. Muchael Dunavant to serve for the Western District of Tennesse; Louis V. Franklin, Sr., for the Middle District of Alabama; Justin Herdman to serve for the Nothern District of Ohio; John W. Huber for the District of Utah; Brian J. Kuester for the Eastern District of Oklahoma; Jessie K. Liu for the District of Columbia; Richard W. Moore for the Southern District of Alabama; and Jay E. Town for the Northern District of Alabama. Of the nominees, three have BigLaw connections. Justin Herdman is a white-collar defense partner at Jones Day, and Jessie Liu serves as deputy general counsel for the U.S. Treasury Department, but was previously a partner at Morrison & Foerster and Jenner & Block. Jay Town of Alabama was formerly an associate at McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter.
