Ninth Circuit Includes Trump Tweets In Footnotes

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has established precedence that President Donald Trump’s tweets will be considered official statements, and therefore used as reference and evidence in legal matters. This week, the Ninth Circuit Appeals Court joined the Fourth Circuit Appeals Court in refusing to reinstate the Trump Administration’s travel ban. In their ruling, the panel found unanimously that the executive order – which would have blocked citizens of six Muslim-majority nations from entering the U.S. – “does not provide a rationale explaining why permitting entry of nationals from the six designated countries under current protocols would be detrimental to the interests of the United States.” As a reference, the panel included in a footnote Trump’s June 5 tweet, which reads: “That’s right, we need a TRAVEL BAN for certain DANGEROUS countries, not some politically correct term that won’t help us protect our people!” The panel’s inclusion of a tweet in its footnotes follows White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer’s confirmation that Trump’s tweets are “considered official statements by the President of the United States.”
