Gorsuch Calls the Rule of Law “A Remarkable Gift”

In his first public appearance since his confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court, Justice Neil Gorsuch acknowledged widespread skepticism about the rule of law, but emphasized the importance of convincing the next generation of its importance. “Many of them have grave doubts,” he said. Gorsuch and fellow Justice Stephen Breyer conversed in front of an audience at the Harvard Marshall Forum. Gorsuch and Breyer agreed that the U.S. judicial system owes a debt of gratitude to England, because the founding fathers were trying to assert common law against a tyrannical king. Gorsuch said, “Our constitution was aimed at preserving, not preventing, certain civil liberties.”
