Former FTC Member Joins Microsoft

Julie Brill, a well-known consumer advocate and former FTC member will become Microsoft’s Deputy General Counsel for Privacy and Regulatory Affairs. Her title is a new one in the company’s legal department. As chief regulatory lobbyist she will be the point person in the company’s efforts on privacy, cybersecurity and telecommuncations rules. Brill joined the Washington, D.C. office of Hogan Lovells less than a year ago. She was co-director of that firm’s global privacy and cybersecurity practice group. President Obama appointed her to the FTC in 2010. Previously, she had been an assistant attorney general in Vermont for consumer protection and antitrust for more than 20 years.
