Law Students Transferring To Higher-Ranked Schools

Law school transfers are becoming increasingly common according to higher education consultants, and it’s providing high-performing first-year students with the opportunity to move to a higher-ranked program. Or, the ABA Journal reports, the students can use their first-year success to get bigger tuition breaks at their current program. Transfer students traditionally pay full tuition. The ABA Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar is unlikely to create accreditation rules restricting transfers, said Jerome Organ, a professor at the University of St. Thomas School of Law. But they may consider adding reporting requirements for an accredited law school’s graduating class to compare how transfer bar rates compare to other graduates.
