Trump Takes To Court To Block Obama Efforts

As a part of its strategy to dismantle Obama-era regulations, the Trump administration is moving to prevent federal judges from ruling on a broad array of regulations in lawsuits filed long before the election. Administration officials are asking the judges to put the cases on hold while federal agencies rethink or revise the regulations, and that any existing stays be kept in place so the contested regulations do not take effect before they are scrutinized. Many of the regulations at issue are from the Environmental Protection Agency, a frequent target of Trump’s rhetoric regarding rolling back regulations. “This is actually pretty routine,” Jeffrey R. Holmstead, an EPA official under President George W. Bush, told the Washington Post. “When the Obama Administration took office, there were a number of Bush Administration rules being challenged that they didn’t want to defend.”
