Gorsuch Comes Out Swinging

Within 15 minutes of his first day on the bench of the U.S. Supreme Court, newly-confirmed Justice Neil Gorsuch asked his first question. President Donald Trump’s pick to fill the vacancy on the Court was confirmed April 10, and his first case concerned a procedural issue in a federal worker’s employment discrimination claim. Gorsuch asked four questions in a row of lawyer Christopher Landau, adding that he was “sorry for taking up so much time.” Gorsuch also heard a case concerning a property dispute, and a case over whether securities class-action lawsuits can be barred because they were filed too late. The session began with Chief Justice John Roberts welcoming Gorsuch, and wishing him “a long and happy career in our common calling.”
