Tips To Optimize Your Preservation Process

“Preserving data may be the single most difficult e-discovery challenge,” says Exterro’s Mike Hamilton. The difficulty is the result not only of the quantity of data, but the fact that it now exists on multiple platforms, that it’s fluid, changeable and constantly being sent, received, edited, moved and deleted. To meet preservation obligations, you essentially have to freeze this process. Given these factors, Hamilton provides some tips on developing a workable approach that addresses all data types with an orderly and repeatable process, even though it won’t necessarily be the same process for every case. “By asking the right questions in the identification stage,” he says, “you can create a reasonable, proportional, and defensible preservation strategy.”
