Lawyer Hoping To Marry His Laptop Gets Second Chance

A former Tennessee lawyer suing for the right to marry his laptop – in a bid to undermine the legal concept of same-sex marriage – will get the chance to have his case considered by a Utah federal court, after being rebuffed by a Kentucky federal court. Chris Sevier, a former lawyer and Vanderbilt law graudate, has filed cases in five courts with similar allegations. In dismissing the case, U.S. District Judge Henry Wilhoit of Ashland, Kentucky said of the right to marry the laptop: “No such constitutional rights exist.” Meanwhile, U.S. Magistrate Judge Evenlyn Furse in Utah allowed Sevier to amend his suit there, adding two polygamists as plaintiffs.
