Was Bharara Targeting Trump’s HHS Secretary?

President Trump’s wholesale replacement of U.S. attorneys was not much of a departure from the norm, with one exception: the firing of Preet Bharara, former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Well known as an aggressive investigator and sleuth, Bharara maintains that in a meeting he had with Trump shortly after the election, Trump let him know he would be staying on. On that basis, Bharara refused to resign, as the others did, at Trump’s request. So Trump fired him. What accounts for Trump’s apparent change of heart? Many would say it’s just the way he operates, that he has no problem reversing himself on all kinds of pronouncements and decisions. But a report (based on an anonymous source) in ProPublica suggests another explanation.
