Misidentifying Fish Costs Restaurant Six Figures

A high-end restaurant in the Bay Area owes customers $30,000 for listing a seafood dish as Petrale sole, when it was actually tilapia. The dish – which the restaurant, Odeum, claimed was wild-caught Petrale sole served with lemon, capers, dill, saffron, parmesan risotto and grilled asparagus – cost $31.95. Customers who ordered the dish between October 2014 and March 2016 can submit claims forms for $30 gift cards. The restaurant was also hit with $90,000 in civil penalties. “When you go out to a restaurant you should get the food you order and pay for,” prosecutor Jennifer Deng said in a statement.
