First Lady Says Rumors Ruined “Once In A Lifetime Opportunity” For Her Brand

Representatives for First Lady Melania Trump say that reports of her using her new position for personal gain “are being misinterpreted.” She “has no intention” of making new efforts to profit from her exposure as one of the most prominent women in the world, a spokeswoman and the law firm representing Trump said. The comments come after she re-filed a libel lawsuit this week against Mail Media, owner of the Daily Mail, claiming that an article published in August that falsely accused her of working as an escort hurt her chance to establish “multimillion dollar business relationships,” and prevented her from taking advantage of a “unique, once in a lifetime opportunity” to “launch a broad-based commercial brand.” The suit, filed in New York Supreme Court in Manhattan, concerns an article that the Daily Mail since retracted, saying it didn’t “intend to state or suggest that Mrs. Trump ever worked as an ‘escort’ or in the sex business.” But it already had done its damage, according to Trump’s suit, harming her chances to make connections when she will be “one of the most photographed women in the world.” The brand would include, “apparel accessories, shoes, jewelry, cosmetics, hair care, skin care, and fragrance,” according to the suit.
