Tech Firms Join Immigration Lawsuits

Amazon and Expedia have joined a lawsuit in federal court against the Trump administration, saying the president’s executive order on immigration will hurt their businesses. The lawsuit, filed by Washington state’s attorney general, asked the court to declare parts of the executive order unconstitutional. Expedia said the order hurt its ability to recruit employees from overseas, and that it could undermine the core of the company’s business as an internet travel company. Jeff Bezos said that Amazon, which has outstanding offers of employment to seven job candidates originally from Iran but citizens of other countries, is “exploring other legal options as well.” Tech companies are bracing for the potential of another executive order that could affect the system for issuing visas to foreign workers, which would impact the H-1B and other forms of visas often used to bring in engineers from overseas.
