Former-Attorney Kills Mother, Claims Insurance And Might Get It

The man, who had a history of mental illness, said he killed her in order to spare her the pain of an eviction, which he believed was about to occur as the result of his complaining to her landlord about what he had became convinced were bed bugs. The man, formerly an attorney, was found not guilty of murder by reason of mental illness, and now says he would like the $3,500 in life insurance proceeds “to help out with expenses.” The man’s two brothers are listed as contingent beneficiaries, meaning if he doesn’t get the money, they will. The attorney for the carrier says that “after diligently researching the issue” it could find no precedent and now wants the court to decide.
