Time To Consider Garland, Says Republican Senator

It’s time to admit that Donald Trump is unlikely to win the presidency, Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) said last week, and consider holding hearings on Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland before Hillary Clinton takes office. “I said if we were in a position like we were in in ’96 and we pretty much knew the outcome that we ought to move forward,” Flake said. “If Hillary Clinton is president-elect then we should move forward with hearings in the lame duck. That’s what I’m encouraging my colleagues to do.” Flake reasons that Garland may be better than a more liberal judge Clinton may nominate as president. And when it comes to Trump’s chances on Nov. 8, Flake said he’s reading the writing on the wall. “I’m saying that I’m not one to deny polls, particularly when they are overwhelming,” he said.
