What To Tell Employees About Cybersecurity

Cyber attacks are most likely to come through the “front door,” meaning facilitated by employees, according to this post from Protiviti. With that in mind, writer Scott Laliberte provides ten tips for raising cyber awareness among employees. Number one: be cautious about opening links in emails. Phishing is getting increasingly sophisticated, with perpetrators able to include personal details that make an email look like it came from a colleague or acquaintance, although there are a couple of basic moves that may expose the fraud. Another tip, and perhaps the most important: Assume anything you put into unencrypted email is public, “like a conversation in a crowded room.”  Also included in this list is a warning to IT engineers: Be careful about posting sensitive technical information on what’s become known as a “watering holes” for cyber criminals.
