Apple Alleges Amazon Selling Knockoffs

Apple has filed a lawsuit claiming that Amazon.com has been offering and selling fake iPhones and iPhone accessories. The Silicon Valley tech giant is suing Mobile Star, the New Jersey-based company it says is making the products. Apple purchased 100 Apple-branded products “sold as genuine” on Amazon, and almost 90 percent turned out to be fake, according to the suit. The suit claims that Amazon’s retail arm was fooled into selling the counterfeited items as real. The online retailer says it has “zero tolerance for the sale of counterfeits on our site. We work closely with manufacturers and brands, and pursue wrongdoers aggressively.” Apple says that despite those efforts, “fake Apple products continue to flood Amazon.com.”
