Volkswagen To Pay $175M To U.S. Lawyers

As part of its effort to move past litigation over its diesel emissions cheating scandal, Volkswagen AG has agreed to pay U.S. attorneys $175 million in legal fees. The lawyers represented the owners of 475,000 polluting vehicles in a class action. They sought up to $332.5 million in fees and costs for their work in securing the $10 billion settlement. In September 2015 Volkswagen admitted to installing software in its cars aimed at cheating emissions tests, which allowed vehicles sold in the U.S. to emit up to 40 times legally allowable pollution levels.
