Cheers To Brexit: Sam Adams Wants To Trademark Term

The Boston Beer, maker of Sam Adams, is hoping to trademark the term “Brexit” for a hard cider. The company filed for the trademark on June 24, as the world was working through the consequences of the UK’s historic vote to leave the European Union, known colloquially as “Brexit.” Several trademark applications for the term are now pending, including for clothing, and dietary and nutritional supplements. A Boston Beer spokeswoman told the Wall Street Journal that the company has worked with cider makers in the UK, and sources some apples from that country for its “Angry Orchard” line of ciders.
