Never Say Never: Garland Nom Could Overcome Senate Opposition

Independent voters, Hillary Clinton, and another unexpected opening on the nation’s highest court are among the scenarios that could open the path for Obama’s nominee, Merrick Garland, to the Supreme Court. The scenarios range from somewhat likely to far-fetched, “But if there’s one thing this election cycle has taught us, it’s never say never,” writes the Washington Post. Raising the ire of the voting public was deemed the most likely reason that Republicans would cave and at least hold hearings on Garland’s nomination. A Post poll showed that independents think, by a margin of 2-to-1, that the Senate should hold hearings.
