Recipients of a legal hold memo don’t necessarily need to know what “misappropriation of trade secrets” means, or what court the case is in. They do need to know that “legal hold” doesn’t mean everyone who might have something should save everything they have forever. The goal, writes Arnall Golden Gregory partner Scott Wandstrat in a Today’s General Counsel article, “is to arm the recipients of the hold with the information they need to realistically determine whether any particular piece of information is subject to the hold.”
