Impeachment Proceedings Begin For Pennsylvania AG

Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane, whose law license was suspended following accusations that she leaked secret grand jury information, will now face impeachment proceedings. The Pennsylvania House voted to begin that process, by an overwhelming and bipartisan vote, after a Senate attempt to use an arcane constitutional procedure to kick Kane out was defeated. The vote authorizes lawmakers to investigate whether Kane should face impeachment charges. A vote on that would be followed by a Senate trial. Kane, a Democrat, was elected in 2012 and promised to investigate whether the former AG had played politics with the investigation into the Jerry Sandusky Penn State child molestation scandal. In the course of that investigation, she uncovered inappropriate emails between high-ranking state officials. But the accusations that she leaked information led to criminal charges, and calls from both sides of the aisle to quit. Instead, Kane has vowed to run for re-election.
