Oil Industry Report Warned Of Climate Change In ’82

A report commissioned by the American Petroleum Institute in 1982 outlined several models for climate change, all of them pointing to a rise in temperature. Written for an API task force by scientists with the Lamont–Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University, the report warned that global warming “can have serious consequences for man’s comfort and survival.” It was obtained from a university library by the Union of Concerned Scientists, says an article in InsideClimate News, which takes the API to task for failing to follow up the report with investment in possible solutions and instead shifting its work on climate change “from the environment directorate to its lobbying arm.”
