In Delhi, A Free Market For Sleep

Men pay 30 cents for a blanket, more for a small wood cot to lay it on. Otherwise it’s the cold sidewalk. It’s a cutthroat business, but some of those who do it would say it’s a service, bordering on charity. The Delhi statistics are said to be: 100,000 homeless, but only 18,000 places in homeless shelters. This New York Times feature includes a haunting three minute trailer for a documentary about the business, two years on the making.
