Twitter Sued For Providing “Material Support” for Terrorism

A woman whose husband was killed in a terrorist attack in Jordan last year has sued Twitter in federal court. The lawsuit cites media reports, FBI director James Comey, lawmakers and policy experts to make its case that Twitter hasn’t done enough to remove terror-related content and has enabled the rise of ISIS. Generally providers of internet platform aren’t liable for what gets posted on them, Aaron Mackey, a legal fellow at the Electronic Frontier Foundation tells BuzzFeed News. But, he adds, “What’s interesting about this lawsuit is: it’s not actually saying Twitter is liable for ISIS speech. It’s saying Twitter is providing material support for terrorism.”
