“Reasonable Accommodation” Extends To Job Applicants Too

A recent case filed by the EEOC against McDonald’s should be a cautionary tale for employers as they conduct their hiring process, writes attorney Jon Hyman. According to the EEOC complaint, a McDonald’s manager cancelled a scheduled job interview when she learned that the applicant attended a school for the deaf. “Employers,” Hyman writes, “cannot forget or ignore that their obligations under the ADA to provide reasonable accommodations does not just cover employees, but also extends to job applicants.” He quotes chapter and verse from EEOC guidance that spells out the details.
