EPA Chastised For Illegal Propagandizing

A post from Squire Patton Boggs looks at some recent actions by the EPA that, per the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office, crossed the line from information and policy promotion to illegal propagandizing and lobbying. The GAO says the Agency used the social media platform Thunderclap to mount a phony grass-roots campaign in support of its Clean Water Rule, and, by way of linking to third party websites, effectively engaged in illegal lobbying for the same rule. Meanwhile, House Republicans are investigating the EPA’s use of social media to promote another item on the Administration agenda, the Clean Power Plan.
