2015 A Record Year For Patent Disputes

Patent disputes reached a record high in 2015, according to UnifiedPatents’ annual report, which found an overall rise of 13 percent from the previous year to 5,500, the largest number on record. Another report from RPX Corp. that measures lawsuits only in district courts counted 5,203 patent cases filed in 2015, compared to 4,396 in 2014. Of those, 66.9 percent were filed from non-practicing entities, RPX reports, up from 61 percent in 2014. Nearly two-thirds of the cases, 64 percent, were filed in the Eastern District of Texas.
