Texas Dominates Supreme Court Docket

Abortion, affirmative action, voting rights and, most likely, immigration are all issues before the Supreme Court thanks to one very litigious state: Texas. The reasons are manifold, as USA Today explains: “The Republican legislature and governor pass and implement laws that antagonize liberal interest groups. The state’s changing demographics inspire racial and ethnic battles over voting rights and racial preferences,” and its prison system “includes the nation’s most active execution chamber.” Texas has been the source for many landmark Supreme Court cases, including Roe v. Wade, Texas v. Johnson, and Lawrence v. Texas.
