Juror’s Lust Jeopardizes Trial

A Toronto defense attorney says that a recently convicted defendant in a drug case might have grounds for an appeal based on a juror’s infatuation with the prosecutor. Juror #6 confessed her feelings toward prosecutor Robert Johnson in a series of notes after the trial concluded with a unanimous vote for conviction. When Johnson thanked the jury for their work, #6 wrote that she “wanted to say ‘you’re most welcome,’” but her stomach was in knots and she couldn’t speak. Attorney Edward Prutschi told the Toronto Star that the defendant, who received an 11 year sentence, “will forever wonder if he’s sitting in jail because a juror had a crush on the Crown.”
