Lawyers Liable For Hacked Funds?

The North Carolina State Bar recently ruled that as long as a lawyer takes reasonable security measures to safeguard client information they are not ethically obliged to replace funds lost in a data breach. But when it comes to cybersecurity, the definition of “reasonable” constantly changes. “The technicalities behind cybersecurity are so complex many lawyers opted for law school to escape technical jargon,” FindLaw writes. Another hacker or a consultant who has expertise in network defense are both reasonably reasonable hedges.
