Texas Firm Faces $200M Malpractice Verdict

A jury has levied a $200 million judgment against Texas law firm Andrews Kurth, known for its work in the oil and gas industry. The case, dating back to 2013, was filed by a former client who accused the law firm of malpractice and breach of fiduciary duty. The verdict consists of about $167 million in damages and $29 million in fees and expenses. The total represents about two-thirds of Andrews Kurth’s reported gross revenue in 2014, Bloomberg reports. The firm is asking a Harris County District Court judge to delay hearings until Dec. 14 so it can contest the damage calculations and make other arguments.
