Indonesia Fires Producing More Emissions Than U.S. Economy

From September into October, wild fires in Indonesia were generating on a daily basis more emissions than the U.S. economy, according to a summary report from the World Resources Institute. More than half of the thousands of fires in Indonesia are in peat lands, which contain extremely high concentrations of carbon. The peat fires also emit large amounts of methane, which is said to be more than 21 times more potent a pollutant that carbon dioxide.
