Food Delivery Apps Face Worker Classification Lawsuits

Food delivery apps have become the latest companies in the on-demand economy to be hit by lawsuits claiming employees are misclassified and undercompensated. Drivers for such services are not truly independent contractors, according to lawsuits filed recently, which echo similar allegations levied against ride-sharing app Uber. GrubHub, DoorDash, and Caviar all face lawsuits claiming they treated drivers as employees, without giving them any benefits such as reimbursement for gas, parking and phone data, minimum wage, and overtime.
