‘Yosemite’ Subject Of Trademark Suit

After Aramark won the 15-year contract to run the lodges, restaurants, and visitor attractions at Yosemite National Park, former contract holder Delaware North sued, saying it should be paid for the use of terms like Badger Pass, Curry Village, and even Yosemite itself. Delaware North says Aramark was required to pay for the names, but still has not, giving Aramark an unfair advantage in bidding for the contract. The company is seeking up to $51 million for the intellectual property rights. “The Ahwahnee Hotel and Curry Village: These are as much a part of Yosemite as Half Done and El Capitan,” National Park spokesman Scott Gediman said. “These names belong to the American people.”
