Holy Smokes! The Batmobile Is Copyrighted

The Batmobile is so distinctive it may be deemed a character in and of itself – and therefore is subject to copyright, a three-judge appeals court panel ruled this week. The decision supports DC Comics’ claim that a business selling Batmobile replicas were infringing on the comic book giant’s copyrights. The cars, based on versions of the caped crusader’s vehicle in the 1960s TV show and the 1989 movie, sold for about $90,000 each.
