Butt Dials Admissible In Court

A federal court has ruled that recorded “butt dials” – when a phone makes a call without its owner’s knowledge – may be used in court. In the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals case, one woman received a butt dial call and overheard a co-worker conspiring to discriminate unlawfully against her. She recorded the conversation and reported it. The co-worker sued, saying his private conversation had been recorded and disseminated illegally. But Appeals Court Judge Danny Boggs said that was like leaving your drapes wide open and not expecting anyone to look into your home.
