Unlikely Tech Model For U.S: Estonia

Speaking last month at an IT symposium, a federal official pointed to a small country on the Baltic as a model for what the United States could become in terms of having a digitally developed infrastructure. Estonia has a “fully digital government,” said Megan Smith, who is the U.S. Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in the Office of Science and Technology Policy, and a former vice president at Google. She notes that Estonia is among the so-called “D5″ or most digital-friendly governments, a group that also includes South Korea, the U.K., Israel and New Zealand.
